1) This web 2.0 tool that I used is dumpr.net. This tool uploads a picture and adds an effect to create and imaginative representation of the picture. I used the picture of George Washington and applied a "peeling paint" effect to make it look aged. Why did I choose that effect for that picture? This could be an application I could have students do when reading about historical events or people. I added the "peeling paint" effect to George Washington to emphasize or symbolically represent to age of the painting and history of George. This would be a great application in a reading and language arts classroom when the students can create a presentation of something the read in or out of class. The students could also use this tool on themselves and explain why they applied that specific effect to their picture. This leads the students to give an "all about me" presentation. 2) Steps: go to www.dumpr.net Click on desired effect. Upload picture from your computer, click continue. The picture will show up with the desired effect and you can copy the embedding to add to your own website. You do not need to log in or create a password which is a great thing for young students. This site is very quick, easy and straight forward with its instructions. 3) I would highly recommend this web tool for younger students because it is so easy. Older students can use this tool as well, but I think it would be best for grades 1-4. There are 21 effects now, and there may be additional effects in the future. All the effects are equally simple and user-friendly. Great site!
